Reports are stating that Pope Benedict will allow churches to bring back the Latin mass at any parish unless the local Bishop explicitly forbids it in writing.

Anyone out there old enough to remember when the Latin mass (pre-Vatican II) was the norm? What was it like? How was it different?

Interesting. I heard one of the bigger differences, beyond the language, is that, since the priest's back is to the parishioners that he is not the center of attention. Instead, we are all together focusing on the Eucharist.
